20 Years of Personal Training!
Top Ten Things I Have Learned

I have now been keeping clients healthy and fit for 30 years. I little while ago, while looking through some old files, I came across these reflections I had on my twenty-year anniversary.  I figured I would share them again because these insights are still just as true today as they were when I put the list together ten years ago.

1.      Life is better when you exercise.

2.      Fad diets come and go. There is no magic pill.

3.      Be a smart consumer. If it sounds too good to be true, stay away don’t waste your money.

4.      Exercise is medicine.

5.      Exercise is a non-negotiable.

6.      It takes at least six months to develop a commitment to exercise.

7.      Remember no matter how bad you feel or how hard it is to get to the gym, you will always feel better when you are done.

8.      There are no excuses!

9.      Consistency is the most important part of an exercise program.

10.  Fitness is not for one month or the New Year, fitness is FOREVER!

Final comments

I started in the fitness industry when leg warmers and leotards were in fashion, and my graduating class was total of seven. Now the program has hundreds of students. Personal Training was thought of something that was for movie stars and the wealthy but I have clients from all walks of life.

I often tell my clients I will pay them fifty dollars if their excuse is one that I have never heard before. I did have a client who decided to stop training with me because (as she told her friend) “Bob is too much into exercise”. Hmm…. I think I owe her $50.00 and a Thank You for the compliment.

I am very lucky to have turned my hobby and passion into a career. And the big bonus is that I get to wear shorts to work.
